Buffer is a good scheduler. It's simple, it has a real free plan, and it covers more networks than most. People usually go looking for an alternative for one of three reasons:
- Per-channel pricing. Buffer's Essentials plan is $5 per channel per month. That's cheap for three accounts and less so for fifteen.
- They want something specific: threads-first writing, a shared inbox, open source, or an AI agent that schedules for them.
- They're a developer and want an API or MCP server at a price that suits a side project.

1. Postbase: best for AI agents and flat pricing
That's us, so weigh this one accordingly. Postbase schedules to X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, Mastodon, TikTok and YouTube from one calendar, with a version of each post per network. It has an AI agent built in, and a hosted MCP server, so Claude, Cursor and other AI tools can schedule posts for you.

2. Postiz: best open-source option with the most networks
Postiz is open source (AGPL-3.0), self-hostable, and supports more than 30 networks, including Reddit, Discord, Telegram and Pinterest. Its MCP server, CLI and API are on every plan.
- Price: $29/month for 5 channels, up to $99/month for 100.
- vs Buffer: far more networks and self-hosting; no free hosted plan, and no team seats on the cheapest plan.
3. Publer: best for the lowest price on a few accounts
Publer is the budget pick, with a genuine free plan and per-account pricing from $5. It also has one of the longest network lists here, including Mastodon, Bluesky, Telegram and WordPress.
- Price: from $5 per account per month; free plan for 3 accounts (excluding X).
- vs Buffer: similar pricing model with more networks; the API and MCP server are only on Business plans.
4. SocialBee: best for evergreen content recycling
SocialBee is built around content categories that refill your queue automatically, which suits small businesses that post a steady mix of evergreen content.

Post Bridge is a simple, high-volume scheduler popular with short-form video accounts, with an API and MCP server on its current plans.

- vs Buffer: much more capability, at a much higher price.
9. Sprout Social: best for enterprise reporting
Sprout Social is the enterprise pick, with a deep unified inbox, listening and reporting. Its API is only on the top tier, and its MCP server is documented for ChatGPT.
- Price: $99 per seat per month ($79 billed yearly).
- vs Buffer: far deeper for large teams, and priced for them.
When to stay with Buffer
Buffer is still the right pick if you post to two or three channels, want a free plan, need Instagram or Pinterest today, and don't need an AI agent or API. Switching has a cost, even when it's small.
