The best MCP servers for social media in 2026

A year ago, getting an AI agent to post to social media meant writing your own glue code. Now most of the big schedulers ship an MCP server: a standard plug that lets Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other AI tools use them directly.

They're not all the same, though. Some sign in with a click and others need an API key in a config file. Some cover a dozen networks and others only text networks. Some let the agent schedule, while others only let it save drafts. This is a practical comparison of six, including ours. We've tried to be fair about where each one is the better pick.

What to look for

Before the list, here's what actually matters when you pick one:

• Networks. Does it cover where you post? Video networks (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram Reels) are where coverage differs most.
• How the agent signs in. A hosted server with OAuth means you paste a URL and click "allow". An API-key server means putting a secret in a config file.
• What the agent can do. Draft only, or schedule too? Can it see what's queued, or cancel something?
• Where you check its work. An agent that posts straight to the network is fine for one-offs. For anything regular, you want its posts in a calendar you can review.
• Price. Some include MCP on every plan. Others sit on top of an expensive plan.

At a glance

1. Postbase

Best for: people who want their agent's posts on a calendar they can review, and who want to connect several AI tools without handling keys.

Postbase's MCP server is hosted at a single URL. You add it to Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf or Gemini CLI, sign in, and pick a workspace. There's also an npm package if you'd rather use an API key.

The agent gets four tools: list channels, create a post or thread (as a draft or scheduled), list the queue, and cancel a scheduled post. It can't delete anything or change your account. Everything it schedules appears on the same calendar as your own posts, and each connected tool can be revoked from the Developers page.

Worth knowing: the MCP tools are text only today, so for TikTok and YouTube the agent drafts the caption and you add the video. Instagram, Facebook and Threads are waiting on Meta's app review. Postbase is open source and free to self-host.

2. Buffer

Best for: small teams already on Buffer, or anyone who needs Instagram and Pinterest today and posts to only a few channels.

Buffer has an official remote MCP server that signs in with OAuth and is documented for Claude on the web, desktop and Claude Code. Its docs describe listing channels and scheduled posts and creating drafts. Buffer also has a real free plan (3 channels, 10 queued posts per channel) and an API on every plan.

Worth knowing: pricing is per channel ($5 per channel per month on Essentials), which is cheap for three accounts and less so for fifteen. See our Buffer comparison.

3. Typefully

Best for: writers who mostly post text to X and LinkedIn and want the best thread editor.

Typefully launched its API and MCP server in December 2025, and both are available on every plan, including Free. The hosted server uses OAuth and is documented for Claude, ChatGPT (in developer mode), Cursor and Claude Code. Typefully's X analytics and growth tools are strong.

4. Postiz

Best for: developers who want an open-source scheduler with the widest network list.

Postiz is open source (AGPL-3.0), self-hostable, and covers more than 30 networks, including Reddit, Discord, Telegram and Pinterest. Its MCP server, CLI and API are included on every plan, starting at $29/month.

Worth knowing: there's no free hosted plan, and the cheapest plan has no team seats. As with any self-hosted scheduler, including Postbase, running it yourself means registering your own developer app on each network and getting it approved.

5. Hootsuite

Best for: larger social teams that need a shared inbox, social listening and reporting as well as publishing.

Hootsuite has several MCP servers: one for publishing and analytics, and others for its inbox, listening and employee advocacy products. It lists support for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Copilot. It's the most complete suite here.

Worth knowing: it's also the most expensive, at $99 per user per month billed yearly for Standard, and API access needs an application. There's no native Mastodon support. See our Hootsuite comparison.

6. Ayrshare

Best for: developers building a product that posts on behalf of many customers.

Ayrshare is an API first, with multi-tenant profiles for white-labelling. Its action MCP server has 27 tools and supports a long list of networks, including WhatsApp, Telegram and Snapchat. It authenticates with your API key in a request header.

Worth knowing: it starts at $149/month. Since March 2026, posting to X through Ayrshare needs your own X API credentials. It's built for platforms rather than individuals. See our Ayrshare comparison.

Which one should you use?

• You want the widest network coverage: Postiz or Ayrshare.
• You mainly write text posts and threads: Typefully.
• You need Instagram and a free plan today: Buffer.
• You're a big team with an inbox and listening needs: Hootsuite.
• You want your agent's posts on a calendar you review, plus an agent inside the app, at a flat price: Postbase.
